Bio

Alex Suarez is a trumpet player and educator living in Gainesville, Florida. He is currently pursuing a Master of Music in Jazz Studies at the University of Florida, studying under Dr. Chris Scanlon and Scott Wilson. He graduated from Sam Houston State University with a Bachelor of Music in Trumpet Performance, where he studied under Randy Adams, Steve Warkentin, Brian Fincher, and Dr. Aric Schneller. At SHSU, Alex achieved the "Triple Crown" chair, excelling as Principal Trumpet in the Wind Ensemble, Orchestra, and Jazz Ensemble. He was a member of two notable groups, Sonido Del Soul, a vibrant Latin ensemble, and The News, a popular student band that achieved consecutive victories at the university's Battle of the Bands. He also recorded the trumpet solo on Maynard Ferguson's "Maria" for the SHSU Jazz Ensemble album "ZAMBA!" He has performed as a soloist at festivals like the Bill Watrous Jazz Festival and the Jazz Education Network, playing pieces like Maynard Ferguson's "Give it one," "Maria," and "Birdland." As a Graduate Teaching Assistant at the University of Florida, Alex teaches Jazz Band 2, Jazz Fundamentals 2, Top 40 ensemble, and gives both private trumpet and jazz lessons.
